General description

A journey designed for those travelers wishing to immerse themselves in the nature, history and traditions of pre-saharan Morocco, perfect for families with children and for true lovers of slow tourism.

A five-day trip through the largest oasis in North Africa, to discover this unique land hidden between the Atlas mountains and the vast rocky and sandy plateau at the southern border with Algeria. Starting from Marrakech, we’ll cross the High Atlas mountains to reach the silent city of Ouarzazate, at the desert’s gates, from where we’ll head south to explore the heart of the Draa valley, with guided visits to the ancient souk of Agdz, the beautiful Kasbah of Tamnougalt, the prehistoric rock paintings of Tazzarine and the oasis of Zagora, with a short camel trek and a night in a traditional bivouac at the beautiful sand dunes of M’hamid. Upon request, horse riding, mountain bike and walking trails will give us the unique opportunity to enjoy all the atmosphere and charm of these magical places.

Stages of the trip

5 days / 4 nights

Departure from Marrakech through the Central High Atlas mountains towards the oasis of the Draa river, along the caravan trade route leading up to Timbuktu, at the heart of the great Sahara. In the afternoon, guided tour of the souk of Agdez, with its perfumes of dates and spices. Short hike to the Kasbah of Tamnougalt, ancient fortress of red hearth hidden among a lush palm grove.

A second day trip for nature and sport lovers, exploring the Draa oasis and visiting the prehistorical rock paintings located near the berber village of Tazzarine. Upon request, horse riding and mountain biking tours.

We’ll travel south towards the village of M'hamid, to discover the amazing landscapes at the doors of the great Sahara. On the road, stop at the oasis of Zagora and at the religious Sufi center of Tamgroute. Arrival at M'hamid in the afternoon. Camel trek at to the oasis of Oulad Driss and night in traditional bivouac among the dunes.

On the way back to Marrakech, we will discover the beautiful treasures of the city of Ouarzazate, located on the old caravan route linking the old Almoravid capital to the Saharan Africa. Guided tour of the splendid palace of Taorirte followed by a 4x4 excursion to the oasis of Fint, between date palms, almond trees and fig trees. Upon request, tastings of traditional local products.

Ounila Valley
Last stop to the ancient Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Guided tour of the Ksar, discovering the secrets of this fortress made of earth and straw, visited each year by thousands of tourists. Departure in the afternoon through the Telouet valley, in the heart of the central High Atlas. Return to Marrakech thgough the Tizi 'n Tichka Pass, at an altitude of 2260 m.
