A 6-day trip perfectly blending together the pleasure of discovery, the charm of historical sites and beautiful landscapes and the opportunity to experience local cultures and traditions, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  Following the example of local craftsmen and accompanied by expert guides, we’ll plunge our hands into the secrets of a world still capable to live in a perfect balance with nature, creating artefacts and monuments of exceptional refinement and beauty by wisely mixing and working available natural resources.

The magnificent Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou will be the starting point of this slow, in depth experience through the Berber culture involving all the senses, through hands-on workshops, practical examples, meetings with local coommunities, guided tours and excursions along the Atlas mountains and the famous route of One Thousand Kasbahs.

Ait Ben Haddou – Ounila Valley – Telouet – Ouarzazate – Oasis of Skoura – Draa Valley
Starting from Marrakech, we’ll reach Ait Ben Haddou driving through the central High Atlas mountains and the Tizi n 'Tichla pass. On the first day, the guided visit of the majestic Ksar will give us the unique opportunity to dive into the history and traditions of the Great South, having a first glance of the ancient earth and straw techniques. Over the following days, the journey will include on-site experiential workshops and guided visits to famous historic monuments and architectural sites, as the beautiful palace of Taorirte in Ouarzazate, the Taznakht Kasbah and the traditional berber villages in the Ounila valley, the ancient Glaoui Palace in the wide green valley of Telouet, the kasbah of Amridil in the oasis of Skoura and the countless fortified villages hidden in the lush palm grove of the Draa valley. During the practical sessions, we’ll learn the techniques for the preparation of adobe (earth and straw building material) and participate in the construction/restoration of real portions of buildings. The multilingual staff of Direction Sud will ensure the transmission of knowledge and traditional techniques between local craftsman and participants.
