DESERT AND CAMEL TREKS

Walking in the desert is an amazing experience that everyone should live at least once in a lifetime. Our trek itineraries include hikes and méharées (camel treks) from easy to hard level at the dunes of Ch’gaga and Merzouga, at the doors of the great Sahara.

The best times of the year for hiking and camel trekking in the desert are the months of March, April, May, September and October. The activities are suspended in summer because of the high temperatures.

  • Merzouga Dunes (Erg Chebbi)
    Duration: from 1 day up to 4 days.
    Difficulty level: easy to medium (a good physical condition is recommended).
    Description: very pleasant desert hike, designed to give you a first taste of the desert.

  • M'hamid and Ch'gaga dunes (Erg Lihoudi, Erg Zehar, Erg Smar, Erg Labidlya)
    Duration: from 2 days to two weeks.
    Difficulty level: from medium to high (experienced trekker).
    Description: extremely varied landscape ranging from of dunes, rocks, oases, canyons.. for an unforgettable experience in true contact with nature.

ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT 20 liters backpack + shoulder bag or small backpack; sleeping bag; good walking shoes (preferably with ankle support); windproof & waterproof jacket; wrap-around sunglasses or goggles; comfortable sports clothing according to the season; headlamp; running sticks; scarf, hat to protect from the sun.

SUGGESTIONS AND TIPS If you have an extremely pale skin, we recommend you to use a high protection sun cream (if possible, arrive here already tanned, three or four tan lamps will be enough). If you use contact lenses, we recommend you daily disposable lenses. We finally suggest you not to bring with you computers and other technological equipment that could be damaged by the sand.

MOUNTAIN TREKS

Our trek itineraries in the Atlas Mountains range from the excursion of a few hours to the two-week adventure, for the most experienced trekkers.

  • Djbel M'goun (High Atlas)
    Duration: starting from 5 days.
    Recommended period for travel: all year. Snow expeditions in winter.
    Difficulty level: from intermediate to expert, depending on the season and the characteristics of the trail.

  • Djbel Toubkal (High Atlas)
    Duration: starting from 3 days.
    Recommended period for travel: all year. Snow expeditions in winter.
    Difficulty level: from intermediate to expert, depending on the season and the characteristics of the trail.

  • Djbel Saghro (Anti Atlas)
    Duration: starting from 5 days.
    Recommended period for travel: months of March, April, May, September and October.
    Difficulty level: intermediate, also suitable for beginners.

  • Djbel Sirwa (Anti Atlas)
    Duration: starting from 3 days.
    Recommended period for travel: the whole year except for the winter months.
    Difficulty level: intermediate, also suitable for beginners.

  • Vallée Ounila and Lac Tamda (High Atlas)
    Duration: starting from 3 days.
    Recommended period for travel: the whole year except for the winter months.
    Difficulty level: easy, suitable for families with children.

ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT FOR SUMMER MONTHS 20-30 liters backpack + shoulder bag or small backpack; backpack cover; sleeping bag (for winter months, we recommend you a sleeping bag for low temperature use); good walking shoes, preferably with ankle support; windproof & waterproof jacket; rain jacket and pants; wrap-around sunglasses or goggles; comfortable sports clothing according to the season; headlamp; running sticks; hat; scarf; fleece or wool gloves; heavy socks.

SUGGESTIONS AND TIPS. If you have an extremely pale skin, we recommend you to use a sun protection cream. If you use contact lenses, we strongly recommended daily disposable lenses. We finally suggest you not to bring with you computers and other technological equipment, that could be damaged during the trek.
